A Talladega police officer was airlifted to UAB Hospital after being shot early Wednesday morning while responding to a domestic dispute. The shooting happened at the Walmart in Talladega just before 4:30 a.m.
Officers responded to reports of an abduction. Once they arrived on the scene, a drive inside a car opened fire, hitting one of the officers. Officers returned gunfire.
The driver has been pronounced dead. Another person inside the vehicle was also confirmed dead.
Authorities say a second officer was injured in the incident, but not by gunfire. The officer who was shot was airlifted to UAB Hospital and is expected to survive.
